PCTI Takes London GPs Toward 'Paperless' Practice

A £100,000 contract to help 50 doctors' surgeries in London become 'paperless' practices has been awarded to UK market leader PCTI

Over the next 12 months, the GP practices all within Westminster Primary Care Trust and Kensington and Chelsea Primary Care Trust are to be supplied with PCTI's integrated document management software, following a 'highly successful' pilot."

James Fitzpatrick, senior ICT manager with overall responsibility for information and communication technology across both PCTs, said the contract award was a 'key ingredient' in the trusts' work in delivering patient-centred care.

"The pilot was highly successful with positive feedback from both GPs and practice managers who found it extremely user friendly," he said.

"We see its installation as an important part of our work to improve patient care by speeding up response to results, making the monitoring and managing chronic diseases more robust and a huge step towards the paperless practice scenario."

PCTI director Philip Young said: "Our software is designed to provide GPs and practice managers with a solution which helps them manage with the large amount of correspondence received every day. More importantly it improves efficiency by delivering paper documents electronically whilst integrating with the practices computerised records.

"We offer the most widely recognised 'practice specific' document management systems in primary care, not least because of our ability to work with legacy clinical systems as well as modern enterprise-based solutions.

"Its installation at the London PCTs ties in with the upgrading of all their existing EMIS systems, setting the trusts in good stead to meet the national electronic patient record (CRS) 2010 target."

PCTI has cornered the UK market in its field, with a portfolio of document management products aimed specifically at general practice and installations at more than 2,000 sites throughout the UK.
